Russia sends China plan of IT teamwork on basis of OS Avrora
MOSCOW, Oct 22 (PRIME) -- The Digital Development Ministry has sent a cooperation plan for on the basis of Russian mobile operating system Avrora, developed by state-controlled Rostelecom, to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and is waiting for a response by December, Deputy Minister Mikhail Mamonov told reporters late on Monday.
“Certainly, two companies, Huawei and Rostelecom, may not see business possibilities somewhere. But we have an order of the two leaders. And again, in the current conditions, if there is a political and economic will, the market can be created,” Mamonov said.
Since Avrora cannot be sold without an ecosystem similar to Android or iOS, it can be adjusted and used for a limited number of tasks, the official said.
“As the market is specific, it is not a consumer market, Huawei and Rostelecom cannot create it themselves. It’s the task for China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Russia’s Digital Development Ministry to find options to create an administrative market without suppressing the free market, working in the controlled segment, like state employees, large state companies, large projects, like a census, calculations of something. We should not give up on our developments,” Mamonov said.
Rostelecom President Mikhail Oseyevsky said earlier in October that Huawei does not show interest in Avrora after the U.S. accused Huawei of cooperation with China’s military and intelligence services and blacklisted the company. Google deprived Huawei of access to upgrades of Android, which is installed on the Chinese company’s smartphones.
